Errata to "A Straight-in Approach to Flight Dynamics" by SHAYAK, SARTHAK, SUNANDAN


Unfortunately though unsurprisingly, errors exist in the document. Here are the ones we are currently aware of.

Bookmarks : Subdivision "2C. Yaw and Banking ...." should be "3C. Yaw and Banking ...."
Bookmarks : Section 33, "Stativ" should be "Static"
Table of Contents : A few of the rows of dots can be aligned better
List of symbols : CL and CD definitions have interchanged
List of symbols : Cw should denote the drag constant in the yaw plane
Section 13 : Figure 03 caption : Label TDZ in figure should be explained as touchdown zone
Section 14 : On page 48, first line below figure caption should read "Despite KJFK being a large airport, its SIDs are quite simple ....."
Section 15 : Presentation of IATA flight number (e.g. AI 102), ICAO flight number (AIC 102) and callsign (Air India 102) is slightly muddled. Also, AAL 1275 carrying POTUS should be Executive One not Air Force One
Section 24 : On page 71, the phrase "the plane has no fixed point" should be replaced by "the plane has no point which is stationary with respect to the ground .....". This is not an error but an avoidable semantic imprecision
Section 25 : Signs on terms involving f_p in (3B-15c,d) have been interchanged. This error is typographical and does not affect the subsequent material
Section 26 : Terms arising from non-inertial effects in (3B-17c,d) omitted. Though not typographical, this error does not affect any subsequent content due to the equation not used anywhere
Section 29 : Signs on terms involving f_p in (3B-29c,d) have been interchanged. This error is typographical and does not affect the subsequent material. (Same error as in Section 25 above)
Section 32 : The phrase "equations sets" should be "equation sets"
Section 33 : The subscript C on K missing from (4O-04)
Section 33 : Paragraph on page 83 "In most cases ..... as Choice A." is ungainly and can be expressed better
Section 43 : The Quiz question Q05 should be answered here (it has not been addressed anywhere). Please email me if you want the solution and explanation
Section 48 : First paragraph "timely execution of the approach and landing checklist" (insertion)
Section 49 : For the steady state flare, the target pitch is 2.6 degrees and not 2.4 degrees. The simulations are done using the correct value but the text mentions the wrong value everywhere
Section 62 : Box on page 169 contains the obvious misprint "d1 XXXX BAR XXXX" for "d1 with a bar"
Section 62 : Box on page 170 is not close to the text it comments on
